With the Informal Assessment Matrix, include a short reflection, 1 page. Reflect on how well your learners understood the outcomes of your lesson and how you can improve understanding for future learners. I think that the students were able to understand the outcomes of the lesson to an acceptable level. They didn’t use the exact cue words that were used to help instruct them when filling out the evaluation. However, the lesson wasn’t intended for them to be able to tell me what a sit-up on a yoga ball is, it was intended for them to do it. If they could perform the exercise and do so in a way that they were safe and achieved a fitness workout then they understood what was being asked of them. Students need to be active in Physical Education class rather reiterating a bunch of vocabulary. I was thoroughly pleased with the effort that was given by all of the classes. I was able to tell a difference in the student evaluations between the classes and by third period students were getting the main idea of the lesson and how to teach it to a fellow classmate. I think this is because the students are better behaved and motivated in the third hour class. But, mainly because I was better able to explain and demonstrate to the students. I figured out that demonstrating exactly what the students will be doing helps. Also, telling them when to start the exercise gives a definite beginning and end to the activity. First hour I made the mistake of giving them a water break after the stations then they hung out in the hallway and it was harder to get them back on task. During second and third period we did the evaluation right after the workout and they were released early to get a drink before changing, this worked MUCH better. So throughout the day I was able adjust and adapt to the different learning styles of the students. I learned being engaged and involved with the students not only makes the classes run more smoothly and makes it more fun. But, mostly being engaged is the best class management technique. Looking goofy doing the activities with the students shows the students that you are making a connection with them. It allows you to create experiences together through teaching and learning.
